As with most stories that contain both an historical thread and a modern thread, I enjoyed the historical thread much more so. I've not read many books set during WWI, and I truly enjoyed it. Sophie was a likeable character, and her storyline was engrossing. I can't say the same for the characters and plot of the present day thread, though I did appreciate the theme, intended or not, of how media influences our perspective of "truth." Overall, it was satisfying enough, if not excellent.

A quick and thought-provoking read. I always love a good historical fiction book that is relatable without being boring, this is definitely a book I'd recommend to others!

I enjoyed this one. I have to agree that the WW1 timeline was far more engaging than the modern day. However, I liked the character of Liv. Grief is different for everyone, and i didn't find it unrealistic that she would have tried so hard to cling to the trappings of a life that she had lost.
Read this on the back of [b:Me Before You|12649718|Me Before You|Jojo Moyes|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1359617637s/12649718.jpg|17763198] as I enjoyed so much. I was a little disappointed with this book, it wasn't as engaging and the story didn't seem to flow as well. I also found it difficult to get attached to any of the characters.
Still very readable though and won't put me off trying another [a:Jojo Moyes|281810|Jojo Moyes|http://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1276021965p2/281810.jpg]

Initially I thought of Girl with a Pearl Earring, because of the book's premise. As I read, I was then reminded of Possession, particularly in regards to the present-day narrative. I was completely engrossed. Definitely recommended.
