Sara and Guy are happily married, they have a daughter who has just started college and a 15 year old son, Jacob. Life is just about perfect, until Jacob starts to act strangely. Sara is sure something is wrong but Guy tells her she's just being overly worried. Then Guy notices bruises on Jacob and confronts his son. Apparently, Jacob is being bullied and beaten by a fellow classmate, Mason. Mason is a known bully and the cause of a young girl in the community committing suicide. Sara and Guy are terrified for Jacob. When Jacob ends up in the hospital with severe injuries caused by Mason, Guy and Sara know that the police will do nothing, so they decide to take matters into their own hands.
This was a super quick read because I was absolutely engrossed in the outcome. The ending was definitely a surprise!
As someone who enjoys Dateline and true crime podcasts, I really couldn't get on board with the incompetence of the police in this story. Although, maybe they just didn’t care, Mason and his family weren't exactly loved by the community.
Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for the advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

This was my first book by Daniel Hurst and it will not be my last. What a great, fast paced thriller.
I was feeling every emotion of both parents as they felt helpless when their son was being bullied and so mad at the police for not doing anything.
It was a fast read and hard to put down as I was so interested in the outcome. I definitely did not expect that one last twist.
Thank you Netgalley, Bookouture and the author for ARC in exchange for my honest review.

It was a nice, easy, quick read. I really enjoyed the story and the twist. I didn't suspect the person once, so I was shocked with the ending. It was a good read.

I thought this was gonna be a mid read when I first picked it up but it actually wasn’t. It kept me on my toes and had me stressed. Most of my predictions were wrong

Thank you, Bookouture and NetGalley, for a gifted copy of this new release.
I've recently become a big fan of Daniel Hurst's books. They always keep me engaged in the characters' lives, and the fast-paced storylines make them a quick read. His latest release is no exception - I finished it in just a few hours.
The story was told from multiple viewpoints, with Sara and Guy being the main ones. This made for an entertaining aspect, and even though I could guess the twist early on, it was still an enjoyable read. While it may not be as realistic as some other books, it did a great job portraying the complex need to protect that comes with being a parent. The writing style made it easy to relate to the primary and secondary characters, especially since I am a parent to a teenage boy.
If you're looking for a fast-paced, quick read that will keep you engaged, I highly recommend picking up this book!
