Arguably the best of the trilogy although Across the Nightingale Floor had a beautiful hope and newness to it. Themes of justice and honour are present. The fantasy and magical elements are downplayed in this book. Still find the way women are dealt with in this series problematic. Overall a great ending to a good story. Admirable characters and beautiful prose and imagery, especially of nature.

An extremely disappointing end to the first trilogy.

The first two were so good that this one was a bit of a let down. I can't remember all the reasons why since it's been a while since I read them, I just remember not liking this that much.

The Brilliance of the Moon is excellent, if only for the unexpected ways the prophecy regarding Otori Takao is fulfilled.

A dull plot and foolish characters makes Brilliance of the Moon a disappointing sequel.
