Maria Grace has written a wonderful prequel in Darcy’s Decision. Her insight into Darcy’s personality and character fits right into Jane Austen’s Darcy. Ms. Grace gave the reader answers to so many questions from Pride and Prejudice (P and P). Is Mr. Darcy really so conceited? Who is George Wickham? What happened to Georgina? All these of these questions were answered with great satisfaction.

As I was reading, I truly believed this is Mr. Darcy. I’ve read several Austenesque novels where the characters in no way resembled Jane Austen’s beloved characters. Here, I’m reading what happened to Darcy before he journeyed to Meryton and I believe it’s very consistent with P and P. It flows very nicely.

George Wickham is still the same nasty character. His opinions of entitlement are still strong as ever. Ms. Grace’s insight into Darcy and Wickham’s relationship is very believable and carries well into P and P. To me, it answered a lot of questions of why Darcy would tolerate Wickham at all.

Darcy’s Decision is a nice introduction into Darcy’s character and life. It is a book to read before you read P and P for the gazillonth time. Next I plan to read The Future Mrs. Darcy (Given Good Principles #2).

Good and all, but I do prefer my PP stories to be about love. Cos else, nah, I want love!

Now we have how Wickham came around wanting what was his, and caused trouble.

Nice story, but I am def one that wants my PP with romance.

This was an intriguing read. The backstory & character development shown about Darcy &c before the P&P storyline occurs. It was enough to whet my interest in where the author would go with the series.

Interesting. Didn't enjoy much how Mr Darcy senior was portraied… Didn't realize it was a prequel so was disappointed we didn't get to see any Bennets. On to the next on the series!

I’m a sucker for anything Austen related - my to be read pile is full of fan-fiction, spin-offs, prequels and sequels. This is the first in a series of several books, and places us in a timeframe before any of the original Pride and Prejudice story plays out, which means, disappointingly, no Elizabeth Bennet. While it was interesting to get an insight into what potentially drove the Darcy character we all know and love, and I enjoyed the twist on the usual storyline we see for Wickham, I do feel that overall the book struggled to meet my expectations because of the lack of any potential romance - that is after all what most of us come to a Pride and Prejudice variation book for.
