If whatever you're doing isn't working, don't do it harder.

This is such a hard book to rate. I knew by the second chapter that I wouldn't click with the author. I decided to keep reading to get a different perspective. I think I'm glad I finished it.

This well written and thoughtful book uses stories, examples, and exercises to guide the reader into self reflection and awareness. Two downsides: 1) Some of the exercises didn't connect with me or led me into reflections that were not the intended outcome. 2) The book assumes a good amount of privilege like the line "There are infinite ways to make a living" (14). Not really. In our grossly inequitable economy, a good majority of jobs don't pay enough to cover basic human needs. So what's one to do if following their integrity would mean working with young children at a daycare when that won't pay bills?
