I really wanted to like this more than I did. The worldbuilding was nice, and I liked the magic system a lot, but the middle dragged so much and not much happened. It took a long time to get to the backstory of what transpired between the main character and her childhood best friend turned enemy, and even after it was explained, I still wasn't exactly sure what happened. The action scenes, when they did occur, were well-written, and I liked that it wrapped up at the end and didn't leave things ambiguously.

I'd like this book a lot more if it weren't for the writing. It's overly flowery to the point of distraction. But, the story is good, I really enjoyed the mechanics of the magic.
