Picked up at the library, looked like a quick read (finished in about a half hour). Sweet story about faith.

A sweet and predictable story about the angels, miracles and the power of faith.

Since the 1600s, every 25 years an angel visits the chandler in a tiny Cotswold village, and touches a candle. Whoever receives the candle and prays over it before Christmas receives their wish.

In 1864, the aging chandler and his wife await the angel. But this year, so many people need a miracle, including the chandler's family. Now in his 70's, he won't survive another 25 years for the next visitation, and he has no heirs to continue the candle-making business. Is this the end of the Christmas candles?

Christmas is the perfect time to remember that God is mystery, yet personal, and He does intervene in our lives. This short heartwarming story inspires that reflection.

The movie adaptation starring Samantha Barks is coming out next week, and I wanted the chance to read the book first. I'm glad I did. It's a cute story. Not quite my usual style, but a really nice, cute story nonetheless.
