Hmm I’m not quite sure how I feel about this one. In ways there were parts I really enjoyed—paragraphs here and there that would make you stop and think—but overall I just felt like it tried to cover a ton of topics and a lot of it just felt half-baked. I also wouldn’t say it was a short story collection because it follows the same character throughout the entire book, so I did go into this with different expectations. I didn’t hate it but I also didn’t really enjoy it either.
This book was a lot. It dealt with a lot of deep topics well. It didn't excuse the main character; I didn't find anyone was blamed for the bad things that happened. They just did, and they had to be dealt with, or not, in some cases.
It felt kind of distant. Maybe due to the mental illness aspect, but especially near the end, the bad things slowly seemed to impact the main character less and less, and it was both beautiful and scary.
Also, the imagery and some of the symbolism were beautiful, even if I couldn't decipher all of it. And there were some very fascinating people in the story. No one was wholly good or bad, they just were. I liked the nuance a lot. Especially with the whole objectification theme that appears a lot throughout the story, where her body is repeatedly valued (but not respected) more than her mind. Very well done.

Spoiler
The one thing I didn't like is that there was some growth, but Loli didn't try to fix her romantic relationships. They were all pretty awful and she finally realizes it, but she doesn't get a happy ending at all. Maybe seeing her mom again will help, but her mom was always a sore point for her, so maybe she will end up worse. I am just a sucker for a happy ending, so that made me upset, but it was still pretty.

I read 3 of these chapters for school, and decided I’d read the rest of them.
Some are better than others, but it’s a powerful story about growing up and how women’s bodies are objectified and can be manipulated by not just men.
There are so many layers to unpack here, but it was just an okay read for me.
