I LOVED this. Easily my favourite of the whole series!

This one is probably the darkest of the entire series, so please check the trigger warnings before going in. But, like always, these topics were handled so incredibly well.

Sexual assault is the major topic in this one. I've read a lot of books that address this topic, but none that do it so realistically and well as this one. I could truly feel Tobias's pain through the pages. He didn't immediately "get over" things as soon as he met Gunnar- his healing journey is long and slow.

Gunnar was an incredible MMC. He loves to help people and Tobias was no different. He was patient, and caring, but still make mistakes and messed up which I actually loved. Even after his feelings began to grow, he still done everything possible to make Tobias comfortable.

The conflict in this one had me literally on the edge of my seat. I was so nervous for these characters and even when things wrapped up those feelings still lingered. Erin Russell is so incredibly good at writing feelings, and that's the main reason I love her books so much. I really felt for Tobias and Gunnar, felt connected to them, and that's what allowed me to enjoy this so much.

Oh wow. Okay. Tobias and Gunnar’s story wasn’t entirely what I was expecting - it was far grittier and more brutal than I anticipated, and came with a truckload of emotional impact.

I probably should have seen the abuse and trauma coming from seeing Tobias in 68 Whiskey, but it was a lot to read about it from his and Gunnar’s PoV. The situation Tobias was in was complex, at times felt completely hopeless, and it was definitely difficult for me to read through certain scenes. It broke my heart, but I also felt appreciative that the author didn’t soften the blows when it came to Tobias’ situation; he was in deep and there was just no easy way out for him.

I loved their connection, and how determined Tobias was that Gunnar was the one for him. He needed a soft spot to land after everything he’d been through, and the whole “I feel safe with you” hit all the right feels for me. Gunnar had his reservations considering Tobias’ trauma and the age difference between them, but he couldn’t fully hide just how smitten he was, and once Tobias stumbled through his door he didn’t really stand a chance.

Running Feral was the darkest story so far in the Possum Hollow series, and it was raw and full of gritty and seemingly hopeless situations, but also sweet hurt / comfort and heart-warming moments. I have to admit that even if I knew that there would be a HEA, I had my doubts how they’d get there as things seemed very bleak at times. It was definitely a hard earned one, and totally worth the emotional rollercoaster that was Tobias and Gunnar’s story!

Loved it!

This was the story I didn't know I needed. Gunnar was perfect for Tobias. I wanted all the happiness for him after everything he was put through. It was heartbreaking to see him want to escape from his troubles and his mistakes, only to get drug back. The self-flaggellation in this one is real too. It tore at my heartstrings. Gunnar’s issues with his own trauma and his past play off Tobias’s current situation in such an ironic way that it’s amazing they are able to connect without traumatizing them both more. The peace they give each other can come from a place of understanding when they are able to meet on common ground. This was another great PH HEA… I can't wait to revisit Silas and Cade because spending time with Tristan and familiar faces here gave me the warm and fuzzies as much as this motley crew can.
