The main character was. I assume, supposed to be enigmatic but just ended up flat. Tried to show her brilliance but she ended using herself as a blunt object. Skip it.

Alice Vega and Max "Cap" Caplan are back! When Vega gets hired for an off-the-books assignment in San Diego, she calls in her former partner for backup. The case: Two Jane Does were found murdered and their bodies dumped on the outskirts of the city. It's not pretty - sex trafficking, torture, police corruption - but Vega and Cap are on the case, and they never let up. The chemistry between these two is undeniable. They seem to know what the other needs without ever stating it, and this makes for the perfect partnership, one with trust at the center. I could read Vega and Cap novels all day every day, so here's hoping for more adventures!

And if you haven't already read Two Girls Down, it's worth a read first. You get more backstory of our main characters. Plus, it's another great mystery thriller.

This book was great! I won an ARC of this novel from Bookish First, in exchange for an honest review. All opinions of this book are my own.

We met Alice Vega and Max Caplan in book 1 of this series working on a missing person's case. This time around, Vega was hired by California Police Department and the FBI to help identify two Jane Does and to determine if they were involved in a human trafficking ring. Vega takes the case and immediately secures the help of Caplan, who flies out to CA to join her. What ensues is a masterful race to identify the girls and to figure out where they came from, who they are, and why they were killed.

I'm giving this book 4 stars. I think it was overly complicated towards the end and a little bit hard to follow at times. So many people and places! However the actual ending was excellent. I really enjoyed (most of) this book and I can't wait for the next one!

It was too boring for me. There was not much happening and it made me loose all interest in who the killer is.
