Doshi dishes out a slow burn that is downright brutal. Tackling the issues of dementia, mother-daughter betrayal, ashrams, cult leaders, marriage, the art world, motherhood ... and all in a fairly short book. Normally I could whip through a fiction book of similar length but Burnt Sugar left me unsettled, and more than once. 

While I can't say I enjoyed the book, she got the underbelly of life just right.
