i was prepared to be a hater (ok, so its camelot, but they're all gay and they all have trauma and Daddy Issues, this sounds like a book-tok book with no depth behind it) but i was smitten

even arthur, who i really started out really not liking, i grew to enjoy (like a fungus or a mold, as another character describes him)

for a book about camelot, princes, and princesses, it was surprisingly grounded and realistic (in a good way), the main characters all felt like rounded people and their character develop was all really nice and natural, and reminded me in parts of my own coming out process

ofc, all the non-main characters can end up feeling kind of one note and like, you can tell they're characters in a book (sidney at one point just falls alseep when the plot doesnt require him anymore), but theyre still enjoyable and i can tell effort was made. Just an especially sharp contrast against the main characters

didn't really like the ending tbh, just with some character choices that felt off from how i wanted it to be, but whatever, and not bad enough it ruined the book or anything

Wonderfully written, with a diverse cast of characters that I really enjoyed getting to know.

Yesterday, I decided to spend a couple hours disappearing into this book - which turned into spending a large part of the day, evening and night with it until it was finished.

I really enjoyed the elements of Arthurian legends, England's history, as well as (of course) the romance. Sometimes I found the back and forth between POV's a bit distracting at times, but it was also enjoyable to witness the story from two perspectives (I don't think it would've worked otherwise).

The characters were easy to connect to, despite their stubbornness at times. It was easy to root and feel sad for them as the story progressed. The last 100 pages or so threw me for a spin.

All in all, an enjoyable 'light' read, couldn't put it down. I'd say: a Sunday well spent.

There was lots and lots of murder in the end there. Also if I was Arthur and Sydney I might’ve tried to assassinate the coup leader first rather than run away.
That moment when you’re super gay and make friends only to find out they’re also gay and you are actually doing a horrible job of hiding in the closet because your door is wide open. And swords.

I absolutely loved this book!! The characters were so endearing and the Arthurian-descendants lore was unlike anything I’ve read before.
The last 30% of the book was an insane tonal shift, but tbh I didn’t mind, it was epic and gruesome and brought the death “needed” for Gabriel to change the Kingdom.
My only critique was that I felt Bridgette fell into the shadows compared to Gwen, Art, and Gabriel. The most I know about her is that she’s a skilled swordswoman. Why does she fall for Gwen specifically? What’s her home life like? I’d love a Bridgette spinoff!

This was quite wholesome and slight foolish for the majority before a really strong tone change in the last few moments that honestly threw me for a loop. Additionally, while the prose of it is a super light easy read, some of the vernacular doesn't quite fit in the time period, which took me out of the world a bit. I'll admit that's mostly a picky personal thing though. However, I found Arthur and Gwen to be really well rounded characters with delightful banter.
