Not my favorite noir by any means. Maybe it was the translation, I'm not sure. The book started off fine. A high school history teacher wakes up with a powerful hangover. He finds his wife dead in the bathroom. He can't remember anything about the night before. The book just didn't keep up with that great beginning.

This was an entertaining mystery with an amusing investigator. Some of the wording seemed awkward, but that is probably because of the English translation.

The book was interesting enough, and I am ready to read more about Van Veteren. I was able to guess the solution–although not the exact identity of the murderer–well before the end, but the book kept my attention.

Excellent Swedish mystery. I did guess the killer before the end of the book but I didn't understand the motives or how the killer would be caught.
