wrong interpretations, dumb ones, which just serve a pre wanted purpose and not the one intended by the original author

I fell off the waggon early in the year and got bored. Might try next year again.

The book was really dull to me. I thought of keep reading it, being one chapter a day, but I didn't care about future "lessons".

I've kept this book on my desk at work for about a year now. Reading the short daily entry has become permanently integrated into my coffee ritual. This thing is packed full of quotes from all the great stoics.
I think stoicism is an excellent little branch of philosophy full of practical advice and solid ideas. You could do a lot worse when it comes to philosophies to practice. I don't think anyone will ever be misled in learning and practicing stoicism. And I think that is how stoicism should be used - a tool for reasoning and living practically. It lacks sufficient depth to provide a complete philosophy for life. It's more of a supplement to be used in conjunction with some larger worldview or dogma.
I despise this new "hustle" culture that has appropriated stoicism like it invented it. The "hustle and grind" philosophy (being generous with the term) that lurks in the cesspool of YouTube self-help is a toxic wasteland of selfishness and narcissism. Those videos are either spouting a disgusting amount of self-centeredness, capitalist propaganda to get you working harder, or they are idolizing consumerism and trying to convince you that owning more superfluous shit will finally solve the existential problem of meaning you have. It won't. Neither will stoicism. Stoicism will certainly help you along, however.

This book is comprised of concised explaination of quotes from various philosophers. If you're a quote geek like me, y'll like it. I've rated it 3 stars because I've already read tons of similar books like this one. "The 48 laws of power" and "The Laws Of Human Nature". Author has quoted a couple quotes from these two books as well. Overall the format of the book is lovely and very much likebale and interesting.

Absolutely incredible!
A wonderful introduction to the teachings and life outlook of the Stoic philosophers. I’ve learned a lot reading this in 2023. I have read Marcus Aurelius’ “Meditations” which is one of the texts featured in this one and I’m eager to read other books about the Stoics as well as their primary texts.
A must read!
Happy Reading, everybody!

A book that everyone should read. Also helpful to read alongside Marcus Aurelius' Meditations.
