A difficult one to rate. I would have never read this if I hadn't bought this with my own money some 10-15 years ago (with so little money that I wouldn't really care, but anyway, I didn't get rid of it before this, so), and this was the only reason I managed to get trough the not-so-goodness of this book. It is too long, it has lots of stupid and/or annoying characters and decisions they make, many "unfortunate" timings that prevent the "great love" from happening etc., and some really, really, really stupid statements, one of which actually made me violate this book because I can't understand how anyone could write something so stupid or even think of such things unless they are just senseless jerks. So yeah, you can really see the oldness of this book, and not in a good way.

In short, this is not a romance book, it's more of a book of the misery that happens before all the happiness, and the ending is not worth all the reading you've been through. But at some point I didn't struggle to get into it anymore, so I guess it's got something good in it, though I would never read it again.

I didn’t expect to like this book as much as I ended up liking it, the last third of the book in my opinion is where it shines as it’s pure chaos that is wrapped up neatly!

i think this book was interesting. the writing is a little odd to me, some of the vocabulary. i mean, i know that the author is english and that american and english vocabulary is different, but some of it just made me uncomfortable. reminded me of those wattpad writers everyone makes fun of. the story was a little slow around page 100 to page 130 or something but then that’s where it got pretty good. and yes, there was a little bit of homophobia and racism at the beginning. but i think that’s just very british. it only happened at the start so i suppose they fazed out of it. AND THE ENDING?? HOW DARE THE ENDINF BE WRITTEN LIKE THAT?? i absolutely hated it. the ending deserved better.

I listened to the audiobook and thought it was great. Very likeable characters and not as predictable as I first thought.

Not bad. Wasn't satisfied with the ending. Felt it was a bit ridiculous the way Jewell tried to excuse Joys fathers behaviour because of what her mother did. What a joke, he was a sleazy bastard, end of. Few discrepancies with the time keeping & also when Kirsty gave birth and asked 'what did I have' when a few chapters previously we were informed that she was having a girl. Ridiculous. Jewell also injected more characters into the story than she could handle.
