Wasn't expecting the twist. Couldn't put it down once I got to the last quarter. Cried.

This is a hard book to read, but an important one. It addresses the hard truth that asteroids, both literal and metaphorical, can crash into our lives at any moment and bring the world as we know it to an end. And, yet, it doesn't end hopeless. Everett reminds us that there is always life even after the greatest tragedies, even if it's not life as we knew it.

Repetitive language, sad in a way that overshadows how precocious and interesting Kemi’s character might be, obsession with statistics feel simplausible, repetitive (yup, that’s intentional on my part).  I’m not the target audience (not a middle reader), so the repetition might sit better with that target reading age.  Overall, it feels more suited to an essay or short story than a novel length.  The metaphor is powerful, but it’s so slow until you get to it.  The snappier writing of a shorter form would give it more impact.

This book made me feel so many things, and none of them were feelings I expected. Sarah Everett truly blew me away with lyrical prose and powerful characters, and undeniably brilliant, real, and dynamic main character who feels like I real person I want to call and check on to see if she's okay. Kemi holds a special place in my heart as a reader. Reading with as little information as possible, I honest to goodness gasped out loud when the reveal at the end came, and shed tears at 1am as I finished the pages. Cannot recommend this one enough!
