I really hate when the humor feels forced. It was the case with this one (for me, anyway). I also wasn't a fan of the main character's voice. She just annoyed the hell out of me. Another thing--despite the title, no boinking happened until, like, 60% into the book. :/

The rating is based on my enjoyment so no hate please!!! It doesn't mean other people wouldn't enjoy this.

Oh Dear God, she did it again! Kayti McGee had me laughing, snorting, and in fear of peeing myself while rolling into the fetal position during a seriously ri"dick"ulous scenario. She brings a whole new meaning to big man on campus...

I have to say that the more of these off the wall romantic comedies she writes the more my abs hurt from laughing. So keep writing, I will continue to avoid the gym but still work muscles I didn't know I had.

Madison and Marc are definitely a match made in nerddom. (Nerddom is a nerdy domain. A legit word...one day) Though they belong to opposite sides of the spectrum, both belong firmly in the geeky world. I may not subscribe to the sexiness of Wonder Woman undies but I have several Spider-Man, Wolverine, and X-Men. No doubt they are awesome, but sexy....um, no.

I absolutely fell all over myself with the shenanigans and fan fiction of events that may or may not have happened. I would just like to say, Kayti if you do a sitcomic of the Screwmates, it better be available for signing.

Be warned:

Copious amounts of wine were harmed, mislabeled, and desecrated during the entirety of this book. Proceed with caution.

Oh and crostini in your purse, I wouldn't recommend it.

Screwmates is my first book by Kayti McGee, but this one sounded really good so I took a chance on it. While I did enjoy it at times, this one was just okay for me. There were a few things that didn't work so well for me and that kept me from really liking this one.

Marc and Madison are roommates that rarely interact. With him always studying or in class and her always working nights, they don't really know each other. But then an unexpected night off and some alcohol changes everything. Neither of them fit into the plans that they have each made, but soon they come up with the idea that they should become screwmates. But what happens when their plans start to change as both of them realize that their arrangement is nothing like they thought it would be?

I have to admit while I liked the characters, they were a part of my problem with this one. I never really felt like I could connect with Marc. Despite there being more to him than you first see, I just wasn't able to really get behind his character even though I wanted to. Madison annoyed me at times, as she was a bit more quirky that I could relate to. While these two were opposites in a lot of ways, I did think that they worked well together. They definitely had chemistry and were forming something more, I just had some problems feeling fully invested in their relationship.

I also felt like sometimes the humor here felt a bit forced and on the immature side. There were things that I found funny, but sometimes it just seemed a bit too over the top. I do think that this one had a lot of promise and that Kayti McGee has talent. While this one didn't fully work for me, a lot of reviews I have read loved it. It could simply be that this one just didn't click for me personally, and I recommend giving it a shot if it sounds like something you might like. I would read more from Kayti McGee in the future, and I think with her being a relatively new writer that she will continue to grow as a writer and she will get better with each book she writes. She definitely shows promise and I think that this one was more about the characters for me than anything.

I wish I had a glass of wine while I was reading this.
Two people who suck at seduction practice on each other.
The read was good, and easy. There were times where it felt a little slow, but all in all, I'd be willing to read it again!

Received as an ARC.

UGH. This started off so strong. The characters were hilarious and likeable. The plot was, while predictable, interesting and I was enjoying it.

Then Marc became a jerk and Madison tried to change almost everything about herself to suit him. The ending tried to rectify that, but it was too little, too late for me.

They also drank alcohol/got drunk way too much for my liking, but that's personal preference.

I was hoping McGee would be the next Sophie Kinsella or Jane Costello but no. This book had so much potential and I guess, for some people, it could be funny but for me...all this talking made the story flat.

If I could describe the writing, it would be ''written by a teenager on the verge of adulthood''. There was too much talking, describing things, even though some things are completely logical. The heroine is a comic-con nerd, drawing cartoons/comics about a ''relationship'' with her roommate Marc, who is a history professor. There is much more focus on how they both describe wines than their relationship together. Seriously, even I know now something about wine. I was missing a special chapter for an epilogue (an epilogue was included in the last chapter though)... just, you know. I like prologues/epilogues being separated.

So all in all, 3 stars.
