This is a sapphic paranormal romance between a nephilem former demon hunter, Cassiel, and a succubus, Avitue. Cassiel has left her abusive family behind, and now owns a small bookshop on earth, living in the apartment above it, (aka, every bookstagrammer/booktoker's dream. It sounds SO cozy). Cassiel struggles with feeling unlovable, directionless, purposeless, and simply unworthy of unconditional love that she has no idea exists. Not to make this about me, but Tamara Jeree, why are you personally attacking me?! *sobs in eldest first-gen daughter*

Avitue is a succubus who is ordered to avenge a fallen demon, with Cassiel as her target. Sheesh! Though they pretty much encounter insta-love when they meet (which isn't my favorite, but once you read the story, and see how deeply their backstories connect, you will get it), I deeply appreciated their individual and combined journeys in following their hearts, rather than meeting expectations and demands from others who never should have had a say in their lives in the first place.

While I struggled with some of the pacing, the writing never let me down because it was gorgeous, lush, and flowed so beautifully. Also, the steam was steaming! I will read any steamy scene from Tamara Jeree, WHEWWWWWW (like, grab your vibe honeys, I'm just saying....)

steam rating: 4 out of 5

Tried 3 times with this one and unfortunately the plot and characters just couldn’t keep me engaged.

Don’t you just love it when you can relate to the main character in a book?!?! Cass was truly someone that had so much growth in her story and I felt like I was growing along side her. Not only did she grow into herself, I truly believe this book was a great representation of a healthy partnership, queer partnership, that I have been searching for. The writing got slow at some points but it was magical and descriptive ( there are small knitpicks that can be made but honestly I don’t see the need). The characters were definitely my favorite aspect of the book overall, Cass and Avitue are such complex characters and seeing their growth made me feel like a proud parent. This is without a doubt one of my favorite books this year and on my wlw favorite list- I want to by a physical copy asap as I got the ebook. OH and I will say this Hozier and this book, YES!

I want to attach my playlist that I made for the book too just for fun, feel free to check it out!
