Oh where do start. I love Louise Douglas. This is the second book of hers I've read and although the story is completely different to The Secrets Between Us, the writing style is very much recognizable.
This is a gentle story of Olivia and Luca. Luca is dead and Olivia, hated by his family goes back to her home town of Portiston to be close to her dead husband. She finds that Luca's twin brother Marc is suffering as much as her and they find consolation in each other's arms. Of course this can't last but it helps them through the worst time of their lives.

This is really beautifully written and Louise Douglas has now become on of my favorite authors.. How can you get over loosing someone who was your world?

I like this book more than I thought I would. I checked it out six months ago and finally read it this week. The narrator Olivia isn't totally likable, but most of her actions were prompted by loss and grief. I enjoyed it.

For 74p on Kindle this was certainly worth the read. It is a interesting story about the effects of grief on two individuals - the dead man's twin brother and his wife. I liked the fact the story switched between the present and past in order to build the story.

In spite of what other reviewers have said, I didn't find this book nearly half as trite or cheesy as the title might suggest. I really dislike superficially artificial romantic novels, but this is certainly not one of those. The writer portrays love and loss very well whilst maintaining the mystery as to the reason why the main character is hated so much by her dead husband's family until well into the story. I found both the plot and the writing very convincing and was totally drawn into the novel from the beginning.

I didn't like this book at all! I didn't find it moving in the slightest, in fact I didn't even like Olivia least of all feel empathy for her. She only seemed to care about her own selfish needs and this propensity was displayed in all three of her affairs described in the book.

I found the plot jolted alarmingly its pace and structure. There were times when the characters behaved incongruously which made it hard to believe in them.

This was just a badly-written sickening mix of forbidden love, controlling families and tragic grief.

I read this easily, but I wasn't particularly impressed. I got annoyed with the time jumps, and I got annoyed with the main character. When she begins her affair with her brother in law I just lost all sympathy for her. Yes, she's grieving, but that doesn't make it okay. So that left me not really liking her, or the brother in law, or even the husband very much either to be honest. So, not entirely a successful read for me.
