this book has literally saved me, & I keep it by my bed as I think about it so often. silas' writing is so fucking excellent, & it has resonated with me so deeply & made me able to understand more of myself.
if you are queer, trans or any part of the LGBTQ+ community, this book is a must read.
taster (from The Stubborn And Artless Act Of Coming Out):
"name a part of the body that isn't buried."
"name yourself for the first time in your whole life and wait for the audience to gasp in horror when the monster walks out alive."

This is one of my favorite books of poetry, full-stop. I read it in one sitting, and when I finished it I was speechless. Silas Denver Melvin has really outdone himself, and I cannot wait to read more of his work (and to re-read this book ASAP!).
Graphic: Blood, Deadnaming, Death, Gore, Homophobia, Self harm, Suicidal thoughts, Toxic relationship, Transphobia, and Violence
Moderate: Animal death, Body horror, Cursing, Gun violence, Medical content, Sexual content, and Vomit
Minor: Cancer
