here: my pocket knife. here: my howling / sense of reason. you set them out on the table like / a promise. a declaration. and he says he can't love / you, even with your guard             down.

this book has literally saved me, & I keep it by my bed as I think about it so often. silas' writing is so fucking excellent, & it has resonated with me so deeply & made me able to understand more of myself.

if you are queer, trans or any part of the LGBTQ+ community, this book is a must read.

taster (from The Stubborn And Artless Act Of Coming Out):
"name a part of the body that isn't buried."
"name yourself for the first time in your whole life and wait for the audience to gasp in horror when the monster walks out alive."

This poetry book did not disappoint! I followed Silas on Instagram (@sweatermuppet) before he published this and so I was already familiar with his work, but this book blew me out of the water. Would definitely recommend for any poetry lovers, especially if you're part of the LGBTQ+ community.

My favorite poems in the book are "The Apocalypse Will Never Be As Advertised," "Let Dead Dogs Lie," and "Extinction."

This is one of my favorite books of poetry, full-stop. I read it in one sitting, and when I finished it I was speechless. Silas Denver Melvin has really outdone himself, and I cannot wait to read more of his work (and to re-read this book ASAP!).
