I live in the area in a similar layout and situation, so this was very creepy. I couldn't read this at night and I'll try not to think about it when walking my dog. But at least the author acknowledged that a border collie wouldn't get me into that situation, that makes me feel better.

This book started off as a cryptid horror to me and then turned in a 180 from there.

I really enjoyed the characters and the voice of the main character in this book. She felt extremely real and like she could be a real 30 something year old going through this. I loved that this was a journal style type of book as well.

I loved the initial horror of realizing the knocking was not from a bird but from a fucked up deer effigy and that the deer she saw hanging in the woods was alive.

I will say at first I didn’t know what to make of the twist that there was an entire other dimension with fucked up effigies and changelings. But as we got further into the back of the book I really enjoyed it. I feel bad for Anna as well. Even though she wanted to trade herself for Mouse, I couldn’t imagine what i would do differently in her situation. Stuck with dead/alive creatures with no actual real companionship. I feel for her. I’m glad foxy put her out of her misery. I also feel bad for the effigies somewhat as well :( they just wanted their owners back.

Overall a really good book!

This was a really good book. I like the generous amount of humor included with the horror
