Though this one didn't hit me on the same level that God of Malice did, it was such a good read! For me, I found it mildly dark and funny for the first portion, but it really hit me in the gut around the 60% mark. I can't WAIT to read the next book in this series and I'm going to bide my time until its release by binge reading as many of the parents' books as I can.

Anni's feelings felt like instalove to me. There was no real reason for her pursuit of Creighton except some weird ego thing bc he didn't like her in the beginning. The processing of trauma and motives made no sense to me in this one either.

Wtf did I just read!?! This was like a tragic accident you can’t look away from. This is def not for everyone, TW check.
I loved this book it was a lot more emotional than the first one. Also made me realize I’m reading the rina Kent universe in the wrong order

Love the couple but sometimes it's a bit much like it's just "ew" and not "oh.."
In the end I was like: should I dnf or just push through it, and I'm glad I did because the last 3 chapters are gold.

“I might have been the one who dominated her, but she’s the one who’s left her mark everywhere.”
Being a mafia princess, Annika Volkov knew her fate was already decided. But that doesn’t stop her from wanting the wrong one. Creighton King is bad news: gorgeous exterior, silent, brooding and obviously emotionally unavailable. He awakens an insatiable beast inside of Annika and she awakens something tender inside of Creighton. Can Annika learn to break Creighton out of his darkness, or will he distinguish her light?
“Because this is my home, you are my home and I’ll make you admit I’m yours.”
I’M OBSESSED! I can’t explain how much I’ve been loving this series and I’m so happy I was given the arc to God of Pain or else I would not have known this amazing series. I loved every second of Creighton and Annika’s relationship but especially how they helped each other break free from things in their lives that were weighing them down. Even though I really like Jeremy as a character, he was sooo overbearing that I was rooting so hard for when Annika finally stood up to him. Andddd the interactions between Creighton and Adrian had me dying! I can’t wait to read the next series and start the Royal Elites series from the beginning!
Note: check TW/CW! This is Book 2 of an interconnected standalone series that is ongoing. This book contains a morally black character, violence & themes that are not suitable for everyone.
Thank you to Rina Kent and Valentine PR for this arc copy. This review was written honestly & voluntarily based on my own enjoyment of the book.

my only deductions are for the rushed ending (which seems to be rina’s thing) and “little purple”.. just, why?
