Well paced mystery set in the east coast art world. Peter Decker ends up solving a pretty complex case in his retirement job. His wife and a young prep on his way to Harvard law play important roles.

I'm accidentally reading out of order ... I think the last book in this series I read was around number one or two in the series - and I will definitely go back to start the series again. But I picked this one up in the library - the title and cover caught my eye. Peter Decker and his wife Rina Lazarus have retired to a small college town in upstate New York after many years in LA. Peter was an LAPD detective and has now taken a job in the Greenbury Police Department. He is paired with a young Harvard educated detective, Tyler McAdams, who has no police experience. Life in Greenbury is quiet, maybe too quiet for Decker, but Rina has settled in well to their new life. The quiet is shattered when Decker and McAdams get a call late one night to a possible break in at the local cemetery. It turns out that some valuable Tiffany glass panels in a family mausoleum have been stolen. The detectives discover that the forger, a student at one of the colleges, has been brutally murdered in her apartment. The killing seems too much to be just about the glass panels. As the body count increases, Decker and McAdams wonder what they have stumbled on. Really good story line.

Way too complicated and unrealistic. Disappointing.

The killer is revealed in the first 100 pages and then the detectives spend the next 300 bumbling around. Do not recommend.

I stayed up late to finish this book. I should’ve gone to bed.

An okay mystery novel but there were large areas that were boring. I have not read any of the other novels so I had no information about these characters and hadn't read this author before.

Taking Decker out of his element, he's now a small town cop, but it doesn't take long before his detective skills are needed to solve a more puzzling crime than they're used to. It doesn't hurt that he's the only one who can tolerate his partner, which Decker does with the skill of a long-time parent.

It doesn't have the fast-moving plot of some of the earlier novels, but Rina plays a more obvious part than she often does, and the strong characterization is still there, carrying both of them past the awkwardness of retirement to a smaller, quieter community and into the heart of the crime.
