Gillian Flynn is such a good writer. As soon as I started the first few pages I remembered how much I enjoyed Gone Girls. Sometimes I read booktok books and can’t bring myself to finish them because while they aren’t horrible, they just aren’t GOOD! Gillian’s writing is so silky and dark, I just adore it.

This was a great story, I loved the main characters and the description of small town Missouri. I felt so bad for Camille, Christ. I can’t imagine having a mother like that.

I struggled a bit with this book because I found it predictable and still surprisingly disturbing. I think the characters are intriguing with so many issues unique to them. The characters make this story special. The mystery itself was rather full of tropes and, like I said, I predicted most of the surprises. Review on my channel to come.

This is the most disturbing book I have ever read. Gillian Flynn is a genius with suspense; I couldn't put it down even though it made me feel sick, kinda like an addictive poison. Every trigger warning under the sun.

nice! however I had to stop right in the middle of the book due to some life events and I feel like I could’ve enjoyed MUCH more of the book if I had read in just one go.

The first half was kind of slow but then starts to pick up. The end is absolutely mind blowing. I had chills reading it. Wow.

Wow! If you enjoy murder mysteries, this is DEFINITELY the book for you!!!! Twists and intrigue every chapter! The audiobook is fantastic as well. I usually figure mysteries out pretty quickly, but Flynn had me guessing up until the last few pages. I love love love this book!

Malicious, deeply disturbing, violent, but a good thriller

I went into this book thinking it would be a nice little "thriller-next-door", and oh boy was I wrong.

Sharp Objects tells the story of a Chicago-based reporter who’s assigned to cover the murder of two little girls in her hometown in Missouri. While working on solving the mystery, she is forced to get in touch with her roots, her mother, who she was never close to, her half-sister, who she barely knows, and all the somber and stinging parts of herself.

What I didn’t expect, was for this book to be this dark. It deals with extremely unhealthy, toxic, dark (you name it) family relationships, female sexualization, rape culture, body mutilation and especially: sadism. It was a very disturbing experience: some people enjoy this, while others would rather not be taken out of their comfort zone in such a way.

As someone who usually foresees plot twists, I would rate the suspense in the novel “fairly good”. While I did guess the “main idea” of the plot twist, there were many details that were new to me, so I can’t say it was bad.

The rushed ending did disappoint me. I really wished it would be told as a “narrative” and not in such a “matter-of-fact” way (if this makes any sense).

I was hooked on “Sharp Objects” since the beginning, but as things unraveled I began feeling very disturbed in a sinister way by all the violence and especially malice displayed by this city full of harm. However, the suspense was just good enough to not let me put the novel down despite all this (bad) discomfort.
