A Life Not My Own is a very moving and honest account of a childhood of neglect and deprivation at the hands of a drug-addicted mother set in a time where U.S. racial segregation had ended in theory, although not in practice. Yet it is in no way a depressing story, instead being incredibly inspirational as the strength TM Brown found, not only to survive, but to build a strong foundation within herself from which to build a new life, flows off the page and into her readers. This is one of those books I will never forget reading, and will return to it over and over again – after just one reading I honestly feel much more able to meet my own challenges now. Thank you and God bless!
