this book made me feel so weird!! i am so conflicted!! it is so expertly crafted but i don’t love the way that disabilities are dealt with and the way we delve into such confusing relationship dynamics but do not really confront queer identities. definitely an amazingly done story but i wanted a little more out of some of the topics that were dealt with for sure.

Jodhas becomes the first ooloi born to a human mother (Lilith), and it can't control its abilities yet. The Oankali fear it will hurt humans, but Jodhas' family doesn't want it to go back to the ship. Instead, Jodhas journeys to find humans and encounters two from a strange community. And guess what? They're both fertile! The concept of humanity and xenophobia were explored tremendously well.

Octavia Butler once again knocks it out of the park with this one. This series was so weird and wonderful!
