This book is such a good read as it touches on very real issues such as racism, classism, homophobia, etc. The first half of the book is a build up and things get intense quickly in the second half. Definitely a read if you enjoy Gossip Girl-esque settings with Get Out thriller vibes!

A really well-done debut novel that tackles the topic of systemic racism as a reflection of our society. I don't think there was any way for me to predict how and where this novel would go but it I was on the edge of my seat as the story unraveled.

Anyways, this book wasn't at all what I expected from the synopsis and while I feel like the depths of each character could've been explored more, it still was a really interesting read! I recommend reading the author's note after finishing the book.

Beware of thinking this to be a light reading.
Completely astonished how this Gossip Girl story turned into sth so dark so quickly without it being too much.

Wow! It's a good book! I def recommend BIPOC proceed with caution and take breaks bc at least for me it was triggering and gave me anxiety bc I kept imagining the worst case scenario. tbh I think that's the point, to put yourself in the situation and feel it. The way this was escalating was insane yet not unbelievable nor surprising. The concept of "social eugenics" in racist institutions is not talked about enough, it's important we uncover, talk about the sometimes subtle way this manifests, and tbh run these institutions to the ground. The ending was satisfying but not enough, I wanted every racist to reckon with the consequences of their actions and I wanted them to have deal with the consequences and get justice, but the book is right, they're white they'll be fine.

Audio book narrator for Devon spoke VERY slow I had to listen to this book at like 1.90-1.95 speed. Sometimes I'd slow for Chiamaka's narrator. Sped up, they were both great but even at 1.5 which is my usual I felt like I was taking foreverrrrr

i really thought the concept of this book was interesting, and honestly felt so sick to my stomach once the secret was revealed. however i thought that some parts seemed rushed and random, and didn’t love how the end was left ambiguous and many questions.
