Maybe I have read too many similar books, but I didn't enjoy this one much. I just wanted it to be over. I really hated .
It may also be because of Jay Marie's Stronger series which I don't think anything else can compare to.

Could not put this book down. This is an emotional ride. Livvie is kidnapped and Caleb is her cruel (at least at the beginning) captor. There are many twists and turns and we learn both of their back stories. This book ends with a CH and I will certainly be reading on to find out what happens to this couple.
Unfortunately I wasn’t all that impressed with this one.
It’s not the content that I minded (I’ve read some pretty dark romances — darker than this one — and have virtually no triggers). It’s more the writing that made this boring for me, and partially the way the story was setup.
First, my issue with the writing was basically that it’s a long-winded style of writing. There’s a lot of internal dialog, some of which breaks up regular dialogue way too much (big pet peeve of mine). The paragraphs are also exceedingly long, which makes the story seem to drag further.
Now the way the story is setup also isn’t my favorite. Because Caleb is preparing Livvie to be a sex slave while preserving her virginity there is no actual sex between them (just anal once). As an “erotica”, this is kind of a problem since you kind of expect that. If it had been setup where Caleb is just obsessed with her or something I think it would’ve been more interesting.
I also didn’t connect with the characters that much. They are developed a bit, and I can feel their connection to one another growing. But I’m not very emotionally invested in them.
So I don’t think I’ll read on in the duet for this one.

This book is dark and touches on very hard subject matter. The author does a great job of not only handling the dark elements in a palatable way but in also connecting emotionally to the characters and even making you the reader want to understand and maybe even empathize with the anti-hero Caleb to try and understand what drove him to this point.

Rafiq i Caleb potrzebują ofiary, którą poświęcą w imię własnej zemsty. Dziewczyna zostaje wyrwana ze swojego niezbyt szczęśliwego życia i trafia w ręce mężczyzny, który jest przepustką do jeszcze gorszej przyszłości. Sęk w tym, że między Calebem i Livvie jest jakieś niezidentyfikowane uczucie. I o ile w przypadku dziewczyny można śmiało mówić o syndromie sztokholmskim, tak Caleb pierwszy raz czuje coś takiego. A przecież były już inne kobiety, które więził i szkolił. Przecież są też kobiety, z którymi sypia, a mimo to, to właśnie Livvie, którą nazywa Kotkiem, wzbudza w nim coś, co momentami sprawia, że zaczyna się zastanawiać, czy do tej zemsty faktycznie jest potrzebna ta dziewczyna. Byłam gotowa na brutalne opisy, mroczne klimaty i wydarzenia, które mogą wzbudzić we mnie skrajne odczucia. Więc wyobraźcie sobie moje zdziwienie, kiedy to po skończonej lekturze zastanawiałam się, gdzie są te wszystkie rzeczy, które niektórych oburzały. I tak wiem, że każdego rusza co innego. Że każdy z nas ma inną granicę i dla jednych to jest mocne, a dla drugich nie, ale naprawdę spodziewałam się czegoś z przytupem, a w „Dotyku ciemności” tego nie dostałam. Myślałam, że ta historia będzie podobna do „Kontroli” od Pam Godwin, że wzbudzi we mnie takie same emocje, jednak tutaj to się nie stało. All and I mean ALL my friends bar one or two have loved this book but it just didn't do for me what it did for them.
I couldn't get my head around any of it and felt uncomfortable with the situation & if I'm been really honest got kinda bored at times but maybe that was because I didn't like either of the characters & therefore didn't care what happened to them.
I skimmed the majority of the last third of the book and made the decision that I definitely won't be reading the sequel.
