I've noticed that some of the more negative reviews of this book have to do with the subject matter, and that's fine, it's not for everyone, but the subject matter is not even remotely my complaint with this book. Unless you count plot as subject matter, because the plot was kind of lacking. Lacking in that there IS one, you're TOLD that there's one, but then the author kind of just makes weird stabs at it, and you're reading it like, what the fuck are you doing, you TOLD us the whole premise of the book, why are you just wandering around in weird circles like you're trying to pin the tail on some kind of invisible donkey? YOU TOLD US ABOUT THE DONKEY THE DONKEY IS RIGHT THERE WE ALL UNDERSTAND THE FORM AND FUNCTION OF THE DONKEY START MAKING WITH THE DONKEY YOU HAVE PROMISED. I mean, if THAT is counted as subject matter, then yeah, I guess I kind of have a problem with the subject matter. But the whole rape, slave trade, bad man, murder, whatever, no, I have no problem with that, because I can read a synopsis and if I had a problem with all of that, I wouldn't have read this book.

No, actually, I read about all of that in the synopsis and then STILL READ THIS BOOK, indicating that I was kind of expecting all of that and all of the promised donkey that was indicated would be laid before me, and it kind of just wasn't. The author either needed to take way more time, be way more talent, or have way more pages to achieve what she was going for with this book. So Caleb is supposed to be breaking this chick to his will, and there's maybe one incident/scene of that. But it didn't actually happen. Or did it? Or was it that one time? She clings to him, but then she runs away. He's in love with her, but actually he's not. He's getting revenge with her as a tool, but she's actually going to get revenge on him, but actually she's not because he's actually helping her because why would she want to go home anyway.

There are a lot of books along these lines/this trope - dominant man breaks willful woman to his will - because a lot of people like to read that kind of thing. So it's not like this is a new concept, I AM A LADY WITH EXPECTATIONS. And this book fell WAY flat. I guess the book promised WAY more than the author was able to deliver. I would have liked a way longer book by a way more talented writer - maybe one who doesn't confuse your and you're SO. MANY. TIMES. Or one who doesn't tell what both parties are feeling from the first person perspective of one of them.

Normally finishing something in less than 24 hours is a good thing with regard to how much I like a book, and when I was reading this last night, I really did think it was going to rate well with me, but eventually the really, really, REALLY terrible writing and meandering floppy plot weirdness just got to me. I can't really get it up to buy the second book in the series.

3.5 stars

There is nothing sexy or romantic about this book. It is rape. It is not okay.

I thought this would be another regular plain romance novel that’s been written a million times before. This book pleasantly surprised me and I care about the characters.

i don't know why i read this...

This book was disturbing in so many ways. The man is a murderer, a RAPIST who does terrible things to young girls. Should I have fallen for him? How can anyone fall for such a man.
From the middle of the book we see that the girl is obviously losing her mind and wants to have any kind of "love", even if it is from the man who literally RAPED her and BEAT her with a belt five minutes ago.
No one should ever confuse this book with a love story, even if it is supposed to be BDSM. This book is neither of those. This is a story about a RAPIST and a girl who is so sad and lonely because her mother doesn't love her that she can excise her RAPIST just because, after he RAPED her, he "took care" of her.
I can't figure out how anyone finds this romantic. I won't lie I liked the writing , but other than that, this book is absolutely awful. A young girl who knows nothing about relationships may read this and begin to think that it is normal for a woman to be treated this way. Or worse, a boy may read this and begin to think he can treat women that way. I don't understand how anyone can publish such a thing. The only reason I kept reading it was because I was curious how they would fall in love. And I don't think they did, it wasn't even close. The only difference in their relationship from beginning to end was that she went crazy after everything she went through (and who wouldn't) and began to have "feelings" for him. (and I am sure if he wasn't hot and did the same things, she would never catch feeling for him) The only difference in him is that in the last few pages he had begun to show some sympathy for her, but he still intended to sell her to get his revenge.
If you think to read this book don't. There are so many books in this genre that are actually good аnd don't romanticize the rape.

P. S. Some of you may think that I didn't like the book because I don't like this type of books. I want to make it clear that I like them but this one was too much.

No sé como explicar mis feels con este libro porque o sea a veces todo era tan :( pero entonces habían veces que (y me cuesta mucho aceptar esto) me gustaba tanto Caleb que siento que me odio, me entienden???

ah y Livvie me encantó Livvie.

4 stars. Only reason why I’m not giving 5 stars is because I’m annoyed I didn’t realize there was another one to read. My bad. Thought it was a stand-alone

when bae sells you into sex trafficking

There must be something wrong with me for liking this book... Deep down, I might be sick. :p I'm not a "damsel in distress looking for her hero" kind of girl, I don't read romance novels and I don't like to read about vanilla sex. So i picked up this which is basically the anti-romance novel. This book was a spur of the moment choice and I liked it more than I care to admit...

So Livvie.... Livvie has been abused all her life, mental abuse, sexual abuse, verbal abuse, the whole deal. Then she is kidnapped and she goes practically insane at the hands of Caleb, one moment he is cold, cruel, and emotionless and the next he is protective and comforting. Against her better judgement she begins to enjoy those fleeting comforting moments... That may sound twisted, and a lot of times it is.. Like when he tied her up and then forces her to listen to him have sex with a whore and then she feels.. Jealousy? 0_o But thankfully she's not stupid, she fought back and when she had an opportunity to escape she took it... THANK YOU! Thank you for not sticking around to try "fix him". Sure, maybe you did pull a gun on him and quote "Dirty Harry" but at least you took your chance... Just work on your presentation next time. >_>

Now Caleb is a piece of work. Step aside Christian Grey because you ain't got nothing on Caleb... He's always smiling and ALWAYS HARD... Yup, he's aroused by pretty much everything: scars, guns, vengeance, tears.. And since Livvie is always crying he considers her to be pretty much the sexiest thing in the world. He also had a rough life. He's experienced firsthand everything he's put Livvie through, worse actually, and he considers himself a "survivor". Bent on vengeance to a man he's never actually met he trains Livvie as a "pleasure slave" so he can sell her to him and then do certain vague things to get revenge...

It was definitely a disturbing read and when I tried to put myself in the situation I can't imagine I would have acted much differently... Sure she cried a lot, but I probably would have never stopped. I realized that isolation must be one of the worst forms of torture, and when somebody offers comfort after a week of having nothing but your own thoughts would you really care who it is? I'm not sure.. I guess it does help that he's gorgeous though.. Gorgeous men can get away with anything in erotica.

I'm not sure if I'm gonna read the next book... I really don't want this to turn into a "he learned the error of his ways and she was able to forgive his actions" story... no... Just no, I don't care how beautiful he is, he's a murderer and sex trafficker.. But I am curious as to what happens next.
