DNF at 56%. I’m just not as into it as I thought I would be. I’m learning that life is too short to push though books I’m not into. Especially when my TBR list is 1500 books long.

I realized I wasn’t enjoying it and I was like “oh but it’s probably gonna be over soon”, and then I glanced at the percentage and it was at 56%. It’s just dragging, I feel.

Jax was kinda off putting at the beginning honestly. He didn’t communicate well in their first two interactions and it was unpleasant. I know he changed but still. Not a fan.

I feel like the setting was very limiting and you can do so much with the ocean and not much was done. I wanted it to feel mystical and it didn’t, and if it gets better, well, idk what to say. It should’ve captivated me in the first half of the book. I’ve read other things by these authors and enjoyed them. This one just wasn’t my cup of tea.

I also feel like the stakes weren’t high enough in the conflict. Idk, just wasn’t my thing.

Also the tentacles weren’t utilized enough. Sorry.

Rating: 3.2
I just really enjoy books where there’s something unique about them. There’s an aspect of the book that’s new to me and I felt that way with this one. It’s not the most amazing book ever but I enjoyed it.

I liked this book. I didn’t think it possible but she had me intrigued with a Kraken, just as she had me swooning over a spider man (Vrix).

I’ve read a few books by Tiffany Roberts and my only complaint is her pacing. Her books are very well written and descriptive that it borders on excess. I found myself skimming some chapters to get to the more interesting parts of the story.

I like the world building and the novelty of the Kraken. I will read the next book but I hope the pacing is a little better than this one. I will say that while I was invested in Jax and Macy, they weren’t wholly interesting characters. They weren’t as fleshed out as Ivy and Ketahn in The Spider’s Mate. The pacing was so slow that it almost seemed unbelievable that they were in love so quickly because so little time had passed. I was more curious how Kraken mated, the social dynamic among their species and the potential conflict with humans. Jax and Macy didn’t stand out to me. I hope the next book is a little better.

At no point did Macy ask Jax to “release his little Kraken” and that was a missed opportunity.

So excited to see where this world goes! Super compelling world building and I’m loving the characters so far. Can’t wait for more.
