rating: 3 ⭐️

while i enjoyed myself,  i was hoping for mooooore. idk what type of more exactly but just more. it didn't hit all the right spots for me, but it doesn't mean the book is bad in any way!

the love story was super sweet, the development made sense, although a bit fast, was nice to follow along. i like the introduction of the side characters, we know just enough to understand their personality and how they'll go on as the series continues.

i was hoping for more spicy spice tho, can't lie was a bit disappointed with the quantity and the kinkity of the spice

will i read more of this series? probablyyyyy

Love knows no bounds. Tiffany Roberts explores how love can help one transcend beyond prejudice, even if its forbidden love.

THE BLURB

Ever since a childhood sailing accident, Macy has clung to the safety of land. Until one fateful day that she goes sailing. Her worst nightmares imagined; their boat capsizes and she’s swept out to sea.

Jax is a kraken, known for his unusual wandering nature, driven by a need to journey far and wide. He saves Macy from drowning, intrigued by the human and all that she represents. But krakens and humans have a complicated and violent history. If the humans discover his species, will both races be doom to return to war?

He can’t risk her returning to her town, nor does he want to let her go. They know that everything can only end in disaster, surely. Can they give up their old lives, families and friends, to embrace a new way of life?

TONE OF THE BOOK

Treasure of the Abyss has been written in what I call a neutral tone. It’s not lighthearted, like Ruby Dixon’s novels, however it’s also not a solid drama like one would expect with something like Game of Thrones. There is some tension between characters and groups, however it’s used as a plot point more than an overwhelming constant.

SENSITIVE TOPICS

Treasure of The Abyss is an 18+ book; there are graphical sex scenes that aren’t suitable for younger audiences.

SERIES SYNOPSIS

This is the first book in The Kraken series, with 7 books in the series currently. Each book in the series focuses on a different couple, and in itself is a standalone (though best read as a series for full world building). This book is a standalone, with a happy ever after ending.

At 366 pages long, this book is a standard length for romance novels; a satisfying read that’s the perfect length for some wonderful character development without dragging on.

OTHER THOUGHTS

Unlike many sci-fi romance novels that focus on “alien” species, the Kraken have rather unique anatomy; the upper body is humanoid, whereas the lower body is almost exclusively octopus. The Kraken reside almost permanently in the water, though can move around dry land. Because of the difference in anatomy, this novel had a refreshing take upon how couples interacted (both in daily life and the biblical sense). This aspect of the novel had mixed reactions from the audience; whilst some people found it “more normal” than they expected, others couldn’t get past the tentacles.

FINAL WORD

I enjoyed reading Treasure of the Abyss. Tiffany Roberts creates a believable and dynamic world, both on land and underwater. The difference in anatomy was unique, and seems to be a love/hate aspect for some readers.

What a delightful read. I went into this one a little skeptical and I am glad I read this.

What I really enjoyed about this book is that the differences between the human h and the non human H were really obvious but the author explained in a believable way on how they were able to mate.

This is a unique paranormal story that is very interesting.

This is a well-written romance between an octopoid creature and a human woman. I'm glad I read it, but it wasn't a book that I found to be a page turner or so riveting that I couldn't put it down. The author's Infinite City series was a lot more exciting to me.

I think I just didn't connect to the main characters very well. Jax's personality didn't do it for me. I didn't like how often he would just leave her alone. Also Macy made some decisions that frustrated me. She's a 25 year old woman, which I'm glad she wasn't younger than that. I still found it hard to believe she did suspect
that she was pregnant at any point during her "sickness."

The characters that I did like were Arkon, and eventually even Dracchus. I am excited to read books about them.
