Well that is it, I am caught up to One Piece!! It's been a two year journey, but a LOT of fun.
I think Wano might be in contender for strongest arc in the series, I don't think its the best, Alabasta, Paramount War, and Dressrosa I think all are better. But, it was great!
So why the 3 stars? Well I didn't love the reveal for Luffy here, it felt a bit like plot armor intervening. I don't think it fit the more serious vibe that the series has been really maintaining.
Law, Kid, Zoro, and the samurai stole the show for me here.
Sigh.... now time to take a bit of a One Piece break, and let some chapters reaccumulate!

The volume to end all of volumes of One Piece. This is the pinnacle of storytelling. The reveal and defeats of the century. From epic attacks to the silliest thing you'll see this side of Looney Tunes, we finally have both Gear 5 AND the defeat of Big Mom. All these years of One Piece seem to have come to a head with this volume, and the world of the series will be forever changed. I cannot sing my praises of this series enough.
The first half of this volume is pretty much the T-Law and Eustass show as they take out Big Mom, their attacks getting grander and grander until all sound is stolen away and Big Mom disappears in a crash that nobody hears or sees, even though it's right next to the city and all of the celebrations. It's such an epic moment.
Then the highlight of this volume that somehow manages to one-up that fight, Luffy's Gear 5, the reveal that he ate the Human-Human Fruit: Mythical Zoan: Nika which has a will of it's own and been fleeing from the world government for 800 years. The sheer silliness of this power is something I didn't see coming and absolutely love. Truly a joy to read.
The SBS also dropped some fun tidbits like:
- Sunacchi is a composite word that was inspired by the word Chesuto used in the Satsuma Domain's battle styles. The translation for Sunacchi is Surrender your name and be like a Child.
- Fukurokuju and Raizo have beef from their past, when Fukurokuju's sister fell in love with Raizo, and tried to kiss him, but he pushed her away, accidentally hurting her. In her love for him she continued to say his name until her death, but Fukurokuju thought she was cursing him. His hatred and loathing caused his ears and head to grow. Neither of them discussed their feelings and so now they're enemies.
