Fun, light and funny little mystery. I like Mrs Pargeter, and I am looking forward to learning more about the late Mr Pargeter as the series goes on.

I had high hopes for this series, having read a few Simon Brett mysteries in the past. This, the first in the Mrs Pargeter series, was maybe a little too light for my tastes. However, I liked the character of Mrs Pargeter and the mystery was ok, so perhaps I'm being harsh. This was part of an 8 book kindle boxset that I got for £3, so I'll definitely read on. In fact I think I'll read the 2nd straight away.

A pleasant start to a series I've been meaning to read for a while. I think it will be fun spending time with Mrs. Pargeter. Wonder if we will find out more about Mr. Pargeter?

This was a cute, light little mystery. I will admit that I didn't guess it. I don't know if I'll even be able to find any, but I would read others in this series.

Fun read. Very dated in its ideas of the role of women in the world, but ignoring that, it’s fun.

A perfectly adequate book, but not particularly lovable. Mrs. Pargeter is a bit hard to believe--I suppose there must be widows of criminals out there, but I don't think they'd be a bit like her. None of the other supporting cast were terribly interesting or well-realised, and the motives/psychology of the murderer seemed awfully suspect. There was a bit of an interesting twist at the very, very end, but not enough to up the score to three.
Bland? Yes, I suppose that's the word. Bland. It should have been fun! The premise promises fun, some modern day Snoop Sister, but no, it just sort of lay there for me.
(Note: 5 stars = rare and amazing, 4 = quite good book, 3 = a decent read, 2 = disappointing, 1 = awful, just awful. There are a lot of 4s and 3s in the world!)
