I loved the first Marrow Thieves novel and this sequel is great too. I found it a bit slower and less tense than the first book, but there were a lot of plot twists that I didn’t expect and was engrossed by. I also enjoyed learning more about the political context and the critical social commentary on liberalism that the characters offer in the book. And there’s a deep meditation on the meaning of family and kinship by the characters.

Potential
I did find the introduction of new characters at the end a bit sudden, and sort of “where did this come from” but they did move the plot forward. This applied to the nurses and the vigilante moms, but to be fair they’re not the main characters of the book so it’s fair that they’re not expanded on, they’re more plot devices.

I found there were a number of things left unwrapped up (i.e. his dad, the letters, being in other nations’ territories) so I hope that there’s a third!

Just not for me. I was really happy with where the first book left off. This sequel was really dark, I don't why it felt so much more difficult to read than the first one, but I just felt like 1) there were less gruesome details in Book 1, and 2) the horror was better balanced by tenderness and care among the characters.
