I don't know how to rate this. I saw the movie in theaters about 10 years ago and loved it.  I wasn't accustomed to the unreliable narrator trope at that point & I was shocked at the first twist. However, I've found spending time with these characters & getting a more in depth look into what was going through their minds the entire time was emotionally exhausting & draining. I know they aren't meant to be likeable characters but I couldn't seem to view the story objectively.

I've become more susceptible to feeling challenging emotions during the past 10 years. Maybe if I read it back then, I would have adored it. As it stands now, I think I prefer the movie as the medium for this story (to be fair, I haven't seen the movie in a long time so take w/ a grain of salt.) I'm still taken on an emotional ride but shifting it from first person in the book to a split of first & third person in the movie makes it a more palatable experience, while still maintaining the impact of the story.

Hard to put down after the first big twist. One of those books that makes you want to talk to the author... She has some psycho scary ideas!!! How was she able to write such creepy characters?? Loved it.
