Couldn't get into this, even as a guilty pleasures read.

TW: Mentions of Rape

(Rating closer to a 1.5 rather than a one).

So compared to the last four books, this one is really boring. Nothing much really happens, there's very little romance and Eric isn't in it enough; but on the plus side, Bill isn't really in it much either.

Finally, we see someone (Alcide) acknowledge the fact that in the previous book Bill raped Sookie - hallelujah since prior to this it was literally just ignored. After Alcide brings this up and later in the book Sookie excuses Bills actions saying 'he wasn't himself', 'he'd never hurt me', 'he stopped when he realised it was me' - and don't get me wrong i know that this kind of thing is super common from victims of abuse - but I do hope in later books Harris has Sookie realise how F**ked up it is and I hope she doesn't go back to him.

Also, i think Bill is super petty bringing another girl to flaunt in front of Sookie at work, with the sole intention of hurting her feelings and making her a public spectacle in front of everyone in her town. As if he has the right to be mad at her for kissing Sam (considering they aren't together anymore) when he was the one that repeatedly slept with another woman while still in a relationship with Sookie. Can you tell I hate Bill?

And lastly, a note on the writing, once again at least 50% of this book is made up repetitive exposition - Sookie constantly re-repeating BASIC information that we have been told over and over again. If you cut down all the repetition the book would be at least 100 pages shorter.

Enjoyable. I guess not much else I can say at the moment, it's sort of like trying to review one episode of a tv show when your in the midst of a marathon.

Perhaps I'm getting bored with Sookie, but this was a bit of a snooze-festival. It DID answer the ever present question, "What's cooler than a vampire?" Well it's a one-time swashbuckling pirate turned vampire bartender of course.
