Wow. This book man. I just skimmed the summary and decided to give it a shot and I was not disappointed. I love the authors writting style and I am so glad that someone has written about topics like this realistically. Not making everything happy go lucky and peachy keen. Yeah... Anyway. I loved this book. One of my favourite reads of 2016. Ill definetly be looking into more of his books.

6.Personal Response: When male characters put the machismo aside or at least fight it back, I feel better about the world. Breaking down barriers of rules about sexuality makes us all feel “normal”.[return]7.Connections: This would be great in high school, but more likely it would be used in a gender/sexuality college level course.

This book is incredibly frustrating, superficial, and at times the worst. It tends to be racist, narrow-minded, and completely bigoted. HOwever, this book is also very important. It is an attempt to get to the bottom of a very polarizing and often destructive issue, by no fault of the people that this book attempts to advocate for. Half the time, I wanted to throw this book out the window (figuratively speaking). I wanted to beat up the protagonist and give up completely. The one thing that I must give this book credit for is that it is very very real. And it tries really hard. And it's important to see that someone is trying to breach these issues and give multiple perspectives on an issue that many people won't really see until they take their first women and gender studies course in college. So, kudos for that. Definitely not perfect, but an important start.

I'm not sure I really ever liked Logan. He was an ass and totally selfish but I can understand why. He was just a kid. But he ticked me off constantly. I loved Sage. She was great and brave and I can't even imagine how tough things were for her. I'm sort of glad how it worked out because I didn't like her with Logan.

Books about transgendered kids are few and far between, so anything addressing the topic is welcome. Somehow though, Katcher's story never came alive, never felt real to me; I felt if I were reading nonfiction at times, being preached to, or that the story felt as if it were being told by someone sympathetic to the experience rather than by someone who had actually met and loved a transgendered teen, one with a specific personality, rather than being the generalized product of her circumstances.

I remember reading this in 7th grade, forgetting about it, and spending the next few years trying to think of its name! I loved this book!

Handles the topic of a boy who falls in love with a transgendered girl with sensitivity and reality.
