It’s Halloween and Alice is back at school after mysteriously disappearing over the summer. Her house arrest is over and she must face her peers and teachers with her only escape being Agatha Christie. Iris is hired to tutor Alice, and she needs the money. She has been saving and saving. She wants to get her and her mother away from The Thing. She likes to hang back with her “Zoner” friends and spends many days roller skating and thinking.

That night Alice’s once best friend, Brooke, disappears after fighting with her boyfriend Steve (who happens to be Alice’s ex-boyfriend). When she doesn’t appear at school Alice worries and it seems like even Brooke’s own father isn’t concerned. But when the body is found by Alice and Iris (along with Spike, Neil and Zora) it’s up to the girls to get to the bottom of what actually happened to Brooke Donovan.

Will they solve the mystery? Was it the boyfriend? The father? Alice?! Maybe someone else? Or was it an accident?

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh-

I’ve been waiting for this book for a while now. I have loved the books by Kathleen Glasgow and I had seen nothing but good about Liz Lawson.. So when I saw they co-wrote a true crime book.. I knew I needed to read it..

I downloaded the Kindle version because I didn’t want to wait for it to be shipped (the impatience is real) and I’m so glad I did. I really thought I was gonna finish it in the same day but I guess sleep is important, right? The two POVS really pulled me into the story, especially knowing the Kathleen and Liz wrote specifically for their characters.

I am a huge fan of mystery/true crime books. It’s fun to never really know what to expect and even when you think you know “who dun it”.. You might not. The twists, the turns. It was a fun read and I’m hoping for more “The Agatha’s” books!!

it’s 2022 and these detectives don’t fall in love with each other? a fucking let down.

also, jail to any YA author who repeatedly uses their character’s full names. also also, I’m literally the most gullible woman alive and I knew the ending. *tiktok voice* not gooooood.

Jokingly referenced twice in this book, it does in fact have a real Veronica Mars feel. The second half isn’t as enticing as the first, but overall it’s an entertaining high school murder mystery.

What a book! So full of twists, so interesting, so mysterious. I am glad I picked it up the other day and decided to dive in.
