It's rightfully a classic and has one of Stephensons better plots.

Although well written I struggled to make it through this book. There is a lot of problematic content in regards to YT. And worse, a lot of it is usually defended because of the tone of the book. However people justify it in order to enjoy it, I couldn't.

That being said, the story was enjoyable for me in so far as the overall plot about language being a virus traced back to ancient origins. That was pretty cool.

I'm a big fan of cyberpunk, but I prefer stories about the human condition so was left a bit unsatisfied. YT exists solely to support a divergent plot thread, it's a gonzo, balls to wall story that doesn't have a grander plot in mind. There's something to be said for reading a book that is just a thriller, but I was looking for more from it after all the praise.

Still, not bad. Maybe a victim of hype and sensitivity to some content that made me uncomfortable.

Cyberpunk dystopian etc. Interesting story, moves along pretty quickly. I like how the subject of the story (the macguffin, if you will) is pretty unexpected and out of sync with the rest of the book.

Eh.... This book started off really exciting and I was really into it and really enjoying the characters. I love the concept and I love the world that the author constructed.

However, I feel like the pacing of this novel was pretty far out of whack. It starts fairly slow and with a large amount of detail, but as the "big spoilers" started taking place, it felt like it was happening too fast and the characters were able to draw conclusions from what the readers had been presented with that the reader would have been hard pressed to draw on their own. Not to say a lot of books don't do this, but usually things seem to all make sense in retrospect. That's not really what happened here.

Some of the endings for the characters were unsatisfying. What happened to Y.T.'s mom, for instance? The Feds just let her go? How about Raven? Are we to expect that he never follows up with Y.T.? I don't think he died or we'd have heard about the nuclear explosion. And Hiro and Juanita? That was too easy.

This certainly had the makings of a good story, but the ending felt rushed and the wrap-up was unsatisfying. Would certainly not mind checking out more from the author. The book kept me engaged and entertained. Just left me a little wanting.

More like 2.5. Did very little for me. I couldn't concentrate on it. I think cyber sci-fi is not my genre - I never could get into William Gibson, either. I think it started off on the wrong foot for me - explain to me how society got to the point where you could get killed for delivering a pizza late? - and never recovered. I found it tedious, dull, and the characters to be two dimensional.
