I don't know if i got spoiled by horror games and movies or that this storry is just not scary at all. But the repeat of the same "scary moment" for 5-6 times just does not do it for me. Maybe the problem is that the real sense of danger is gone since the main character is telling us about his passed making it very clear that he will be fine.

I absolutely devoured this short, deliciously gothic, ghost story. In this story, we follow Arthur, a young solicitor sent to a remote, fog-bound estate on the desolate English moors to settle the affairs of a recently deceased client. Eel Marsh House looms in isolation, cut off from the world and hidden behind a perpetual veil of mist. What begins as a routine task quickly descends into a nightmare as Arthur is drawn into a chilling cycle of ghostly sights and sounds—whispers of tragedy and despair that echo endlessly, as if trapped in time. Amidst these relentless hauntings, he encounters a figure that chills his very soul: the woman in black.

This story had it all for me: cozy descriptions of home cooked suppers, an estate on the eerie moors just dripping with atmosphere, a faithful dog that does NOT die, brilliant pacing, and a stunning ending. I highly recommend listening to this on Audible, if you would like sound effects to accompany the outstanding narration (by Paapa Essiedu). It's a fantastic production and the sound effects produced actual jump scares for me!
