It's Spencer's birthday today. Her seventeenth birthday to be exact, and unfortunately, she has to work. Her day was already shaping up to be not the greatest, but when a creepy man accosts her demanding her phone number, she accidentally turns him into gold. As if this wasn't freaky enough, now she has these strange men in gold robes chasing her, and a cute guy - who swears he's a friend - telling her she's the last Atlantian and imploring her to let him help her. All she wanted was to spend her birthday doing whatever she wanted with those she loved, but now that has all changed, her life will never be the same after today.

The premise of this book interested me greatly. I've always had a deep down fascination with the Atlantis legend, so this one seemed right up my alley. The story was fast paced, and I absolutely flew through the book in the matter of pretty much a day of ACTUAL reading. The action starts from the get go, while this was good, I also had some issues with it. We are introduced to Spencer and her best friend Cia, we are then told about two different men (I think...), and it became incredibly hard in the first chapter odd to tell these two characters apart, at first I thought it was one guy, but I'm pretty sure it was two...I think... so this irked me a little bit as being the opening chapter of a book, having your reader confused isn't the greatest thing, however, even though I'm still questioning whether or not there was one guy or two, I got over it (mostly).

Spencer's character came across as very juvenile to me, I understand that she has just turned seventeen, but she sounded like a very young seventeen, and her memory issue when it came to names began to get annoying after a while, I understand that this was meant to be a character quirk but it just didn't seem to gel with the story so much for me. Eli was a nice character, and I enjoyed the characters of the old lady and Kevin, I actually felt that these two characters were the most well rounded ones out of the bunch. I also enjoyed Vincent, I would have liked to have seen more of him.

The plot was well thought out and decently executed, though I did feel that the reader was being told more than shown which made the narration come across as a little monotonous to me, there wasn't really a flow to the writing. As said above though, the pacing was excellent and the story absolutely flew by! There were a couple of errors and sentence structure problems, but that's nothing that couldn't be fixed by another round of editing.

I really enjoyed the story itself, and to be honest, I was kind of hoping this would continue on to be a series as I feel there is more to the story of Spencer and her being the last Atlantian that can be explored, and I'm interested to know what happened next! I can cross my fingers and hope really hard I suppose ;)

If you like a lightish young adult fantasy that touches on the mythology of Atlantis, give this one a go!

I love mythology of any kind, so I was very excited to read a book that has to do with Atlantis. And I was not disappointed.

While the origins are the same, the author took a myth and put an entirely new spin on it. I love the storyline, the way the story is slowly revealing itself, through the action.
Spencer is 17 years old working in her best friends' parent’s coffee shop to earn for her own car. She is very unhappy when she has to work on her actual birthday. There is a regular at the coffee shop, who scares her a bit and when he grabs her, she turns him into gold. She is terrified of what just happen. Next thing she knows there are people trying to kidnap her and handsome stranger hell-bent on saving her. When they all disappear, she takes his keys, that very left ton the floor and disappears to his apartment.

She finds out that she is Atlantian, but has no idea what that actually means, or how it affects her.

She and Eli are on the hunt for answers when she is kidnapped.

It’s an action-packed story, full of amazing storytelling and interesting mythology intertwined.

Even though I love the storyline, the writing was not my favorite, I was missing a bit more of a flow.

The Last Atlantian by Mikki Noble is a young adult fantasy with mythology roots. I am hoping this is the start to a series because after reading this story, I can really picture how it can be expanded. I enjoyed this adventure tale. It was a mashup of king midas with his golden touch mixed with the mythology and folk lore of the atlantis society. It was a lot of fun.

In the Last Atlantian we meet out main character Spencer as she turns 17. Right away, some strange things start to happen. Within the first chapter, a man turns to gold right before her eyes, and a stranger appears out of thin air and gets into a fight before whisking her away. The Last Atlantian does not have a dull moment in the entire book. The story is fast paced and the plot is always moving forward at a steady clip. Most of the time, I really enjoyed that aspect of the novel, but sometimes I wish the book would have slowed down just a smidge and had some of the details fleshed out a bit more. There were times where I wanted a little more description and a little less moving.

If you are a fan of young adult fantasies, The Last Atlantian is a fun read. I loved seeing the authors take on Atlantis culture, and the nod to king midas’s touch of gold was really cool. Those aspects of the story felt unique, and I really enjoyed them. I am really hoping there is a sequel to this one.

Okay first of all, I love that the main character’s name is Spencer. It gives me PLL vibes, not gonna lie, but I think it matches our girl perfectly in this novel. So I just had to mentioned that before I get started.

Second of all, I thought this was super fun?? Like I don’t know if I was expecting Atlantians like from Atlantis: The Lost Empire (Disney fam, you know what I’m talking about) or something else, but I was really happy with this novel and just had fun having to go through Spencer’s journey when she was NOT expecting any of this to happen. Yes, I know, that’s usually how plots will play out, where our main character is going through life like normal and then something happens that just turns their world upside down. It’s not something new, and it’s not something that would be entirely unique, but for some reason I really liked how it played out in this one. I would have to say it’s because of Noble and how she wrote it to be. It just made me extremely intrigued about Spencer and what exactly she had to deal with throughout this novel when she was least expecting it.

Turning people into gold though reminded me of Midas, which hello there’s the whole Mythology part of the genre, and I thought that was pretty cool. I don’t remember seeing a lot of characters turning people into gold lately, so it was a nice little plot to have. I also loved how Spencer was like “oooh cute guy, why is he calling me the last atlantian randomly” and her thoughts were just so relate-able. I probably would have thought the same thing, especially about the cute guy. Happy Birthday Spencer, you got a cute guy in front of you now and he gets to tell you more about your life than you probably never thought possible.

I hope there’s going to be another one in this series, because I need to know what else is going to happen in Spencer’s life. She can’t just be done.
