such a moving look into family dynamics and life complexities
A book about a girl on the cusp of adolescence, who is beginning to get a greater glimpse into the complex ways of adulthood. One thing I especially admired was the way the authors weave nature into the interpersonal stories. It’s a very Canadian book, I think. Even though I’ve never been to Ontario, I too went with my family to annual beach vacation (here in BC). There are differences, of course, but I recognized many similar dynamics, and expect this experience is a significant part of our shared culture.
So much potential for some very important topics (infertility, miscarriage, teen pregnancy, slut shaming, etc) but nothing came from any of it.

It was just...eh? Idk, felt a little cringe to me.

Esperaba más. Me faltaron personajes e historia.
If you want a story where everything wraps up and resolves at the end, This One Summer is absolutely not for you. I loved that about it though. I loved that the author didn't try to pretend a summer at the beach would fix everything or even provide a climax. Life just went on, the same as it would have at home.
The main character, Rose, is angsty as hell; but given that she's a teenager and her parents are fighting all the time, I think that's pretty normal.
Gorgeous graphics.
