A quiet yet poignant graphic novel about the summer between childhood and adolescence. While it doesn’t seem like much happens, the beautiful artwork demonstrates the balance between filling the summer with joy and child-like freedom, and craving independence and maturity from yourself and your friends.

I really love the art style, but the story didn’t do it for me at all.

I loved this. Coming-of-age and adjacent stories are some of my favorites. I really like the black and white art style (the possible meaning of which has just come to mind) and how well the book encapsulates that in-between-ness that all people experience when they're going from childhood to young adulthood. Also that period of time that it seems all daughters experience where they hate their moms for no reason lol. Perhaps this has become my bridge to the graphic novel format...

Gorgeous depictions of water, and a distinct nostalgia for the summers when I was twelve or thirteen. However, the in between was just a little too empty for me perhaps.

What a bittersweet glimpse at such a budding time in one’s life.
