A brilliantly clever psychological thriller set on dual timelines filled full with plenty of twists and suspense to keep you glued throughout.

Sometimes you have huge expectations for a book and for whatever reason, it just doesn't live up to the assumed bar. Unfortunately, this was one of those books and I'm struggling to fully express why. In a nutshell, I'm not a huge fan of Perry's writing style (it feels too descriptive) and the story felt really anti-climatic. Just not for me.

Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin UK-Michael Joseph for the ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I had read one of the author's previous books and was eager to read this one. The premise of the book sounded so intriguing and I was thrilled to be approved for it.

This was an enjoyable read with a tone of menace echoing throughout the book. It took me a while to get around to reading it but once I started, I was hooked. It is a really good mystery and I would definitely recommend it to readers who love twisty thrillers as there are quite a few in this book.

Yeah, didn't really enjoy this book. I always enjoy Irish writers but the setting wasn't right. I didn't get a picture of the setting or characters. I liked the story though. And we read more of Perry's work.

Just finished this read and unsure what to make of it. Parts were chilling, spooky and the emerging themes uncomfortable. I liked the idea of a reunion in a (formerly) grand home such as Thornbury, but felt the storytelling to get us to this point was a little clunky.

Once the reunion weekend was underway, I got my teeth into the story. It was almost Christie-‘in the billiard room with the pistol’ like. I enjoyed the drama and building intrigue with flashbacks to the characters formative years here.

But then the conclusion felt rushed and the reflective ending left me feeling a little empty.

This really did have an Agatha Christie feel to it. A group of people brought to a crumbling mansion for reasons that are not at all what they seem. Secrets from their past being dug up. Only to have them cause pain for all the parties concerned. A very good book, with an ending that I didn't see coming

Unfortunately i didn't enjoy this book as much as i would of liked. I felt as thought the ending was rushed and there wasn't many answers. Also i didn't like the characters very much especially Linsey. I felt as though she had no feeling, her boyfriend has just died and she didn't seem the littlest bit upset about it she almost seemed glad of it. It didn't say what happened to Rachel, did she go to jail? Did she die? Who knows. Unfortunately i wouldn't recommend this book as it just doesn't have much substance to it
