This is perhaps the most bleak book I've ever read, but I am genuinely going to think about this book for the rest of my life.

This book was so slow. I can understand why it was paced this way and the effect it was intended to have, but I found it to be irritating. It didn't contribute to the impact of the ending. The activities that the characters engaged in were not interesting at all, and their collective inability to acknowledge their impending deaths meant that the text lacked any urgency or fear. The concept being explored has so much potential, so 'On the Beach' felt like a wasted opportunity, which is a massive shame.

It wasn't exactly what I expected, but I like this book a lot. I wish it was longer.
