I don't like when book is treating me like I'm stupid. I know that colonialism is bad and I don't need Kuang to tell me this on every page.
Repetitive, boring, with characters without any depth (they are just pure statements without any character) It's so plotless AND when plot is finally starting to happen IT'S SO RIDICULOUS I CAN'T FUCKING STAND THIS 
I don't get this book and I am just irritated by it bc it should've been a nonfiction, an essay or something like that.
Now it's just a bad novel

R.F. Kuang is a damn queen, I love her writing style. The only reason this doesn't get 5 stars is because I didn't feel as connected to the characters, but it was still a great story.

Let me say first that it is a joy to read a fantasy book that does not glorify the feudal class structure. I enjoyed the discussions of language and the concept of a magic that works by the unacknowledged connections between words in various languages. That said, I do agree with the readers who felt that, too often, they were reading a lecture.
