soaring story of power, colonialism, racism, friendship, and identity all wrapped up in a magic laden dark academia setting. also absolutely deep explanations of translation and the nature of meaning. loved this book so so much.

I looooove R F Kuang. This book has been on my list since reading the Poppy Wars. I’m glad I read that and Yellowface first because I felt I could trust her writing to get me to the end, even when it did take me about two months to complete. So many twists and turns and stories and lessons. The setting was so amazing too!! Characters reminded me a lot of those in the Poppy War… loveable but always making choices you either love or hate hahah. Literally these 4 I’ll be thinking about for a while <3

Very much enjoyed this. Kuang sort of writes like she doesn’t trust us as her readers to get the meaning in the story. I appreciated her footnotes. No doubt miss rebecca is intelligent af and a ferocious storyteller
