Babel is an interesting work of fantasy that brilliantly uses language and translation to explore colonialism, orientalism, white supremacy and racism. Its pace is good, the characters are well-written and it's always engaging. I think some stuff around the university experience starts to feel a liiiittle too much like your bog standard "coming of age" story trying to tackle racism, plus I definitely resonated with Kuang's writing when she was going for the lit fic approach in Yellowface over the more simplified language here, BUT its accessibility is still very much appreciated. I can recognise I'm not the target audience as an already old af leftist (30) while valuing what it's going for and who it's actually trying to reach. Really enjoyed my time with it overall and will probs complete my Kuang run someday soon and do the Poppy War trilogy.

ich weiß nicht wie ich in worte fassen kann, was dieses buch mit einem macht.
es ist sehr lang, aber das worldbuilding und der schreibstil
zieht dich direkt in seinen bann.
es war sehr eintönig, bis ca. seite 250 aber dann war es einfach nur mega.
jeder plot twist hat mich einfach umgehauen und das ende wird mich noch lange verfolgen.
einfach nur phenomenal.
