este libro me ha hecho sentir muchas cosas pero el final??? soy pedacitos

i have so much to say but all i can think about is let down by radiohead
specifically one day i am gonna grow wings
do with that what you can

this book exceeded my expectations and i thought it was incredible. important messaging but also such an interesting setting and plot line. love how nerdy it is. hits close to home. literature, language, linguistics, dark academia, imperialism, colonialism, capitalism. this was a joy to read but also filled with grief. i am now a converted kuang fan

“It’s hard to accept what you don’t want to see”

R.F. Kuang you freaking GENIUS.

I love a dark academia but this is the best one I’ve read.

This is a very dense book but keeps you on your toes and brings you through many emotions. I really loved the footnotes provided throughout. At times there was so much information that it blended history with fiction so well you had a hard time with decided what is real and what is not.

Heavy topics on racism and misogyny that are very important for readers to engage in and understand as they are real not just in our history but in our current world today.

After reading Kuang's [b:Yellowface|59357120|Yellowface|R.F. I am completely in awe of Kuang's writing prowess and the breadth she can traverse in the literary world. This book contained the perfect mix of historical fiction and magical realism to bring me out of my comfort zone while still capturing my attention without a lapse in pacing. The in-depth look at the history and evolution of linguistics was fascinating, and I thoroughly enjoyed the focus on English and Chinese. The story is exciting, unpredictable, historically based, and unputdownable. I become thoroughly invested in these characters and their outcomes.

This cinematic book reads like a movie, one filled with action, drama, and impressive special effects. The number of fundamental human issues the story covers is astounding, and the seamless incorporation of historical events with magical elements made me question reality more than once. This is a masterpiece, and it will be staying with me for quite some time.

I was waiting for that heart palpitating moment with high intensity, but it never came
